Maldives Customs Seizes 11.62 Kg of Drugs Worth Over MVR 9.86 Million

The Maldives Customs Service has confiscated 11.62 kilograms of drugs with an estimated street value of over MVR 9.86 million in two separate operations this month.
According to a statement released on Tuesday, the first drug seizure occurred on August 14 during an inspection of packages delivered via courier. One package contained 600 grams of a substance that tested positive for synthetic cathinone, valued at approximately MVR 960,000.
In a second operation on August 19, Customs officers discovered a shipment containing drugs that tested positive for heroin and cannabis. The heroin, weighing 270 grams with packing, and 10.2 kilograms of cannabis were seized during the inspection of air shipments. The street value of this haul is estimated at MVR 8.9 million.
The seized drugs have been handed over to the police for further investigation.
