Indian External Affairs Minister Jaishankar to Visit Maldives in August

Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is scheduled to make an official visit to the Maldives next month, Indian newspapers reported on Tuesday.

Jaishankar will arrive on August 9 for a 2-3 day visit. This will be the first official visit by an Indian minister to the Maldives under President Mohamed Muizzu's administration.

During the visit, Jaishankar will hold discussions with President Muizzu and Maldivian Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer, signaling a potential recovery in Maldives-India relations. Relations had been strained due to the withdrawal of Indian troops from the Maldives and controversial comments made by three Maldivian deputy ministers about Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social media.

Previously, President Muizzu attended Modi's swearing-in ceremony for his third term, and Zameer also visited New Delhi. Currently, Maldivian Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal is in India promoting the Maldives as part of the Welcome India campaign and has met with the Indian tourism and transport ministers.
