President Muizzu Welcomes EU Ambassador, Discusses Economic Cooperation
The ceremony marked the presentation of her letter of credence.
During the discussions, President Muizzu and Ambassador Moreno Raymundo focused on areas of cooperation, particularly the recently signed Samoa Agreement. They discussed how this agreement could potentially lower tariffs on Maldivian fishing exports, a critical industry for the nation's economy.
President Muizzu expressed his appreciation for the EU's continued support and emphasized the significance of the Samoa Agreement, which aims to bolster economic development, sustainable growth, and address environmental and climate change issues in the Maldives. The agreement, signed earlier this month between the EU, its member states, and OACPS member countries, is viewed as a pivotal step in strengthening economic relations and promoting sustainable development.
Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and the European Union, established in 1983, enter a new phase with these discussions, highlighting a renewed commitment to mutual growth and cooperation.
