Maldives and China Strengthen Bilateral Ties in High-Level Talks

Official bilateral discussions between the Maldives and China took place yesterday during the visit of Maldivian Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer to China.

Minister Zameer was accompanied by Minister of Finance Dr. Mohamed Shafeeq and Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muththalib.

The visit was made at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who reaffirmed Beijing's commitment to strengthening relations with the Maldives. Minister Zameer conveyed greetings from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and delivered two letters from President Muizzu to Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Both ministers reiterated their commitment to the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two nations, marking 50 years of Maldives-China cooperation. Minister Zameer also provided an update on the Maldives' economic and fiscal situation, emphasizing the government's dedication to the fiscal reforms proposed by President Muizzu.

The official talks concluded with a special reception hosted by Minister Wang Yi for Minister Zameer and the Maldivian delegation.
