Fenaka Corporation Advances Solar Power Projects
The project, aimed at enhancing renewable energy infrastructure, will see the installation of 2.49-megawatt solar panels along with a 1.9-megawatt battery energy storage system. According to Fenaka, solar panels have already been installed and pre-commissioned on most islands in Thaa atoll, with full commissioning expected by the end of July.
The utility provider is also set to expand the project to Baa and Raa atolls, installing 2.74-megawatt solar photovoltaic (PV) panels in Baa atoll and 3.599-megawatt solar panels in Raa atoll.
In addition to these efforts, solar panels totaling 5 megawatts have been installed across Fenaka Corporation’s power stations. The corporation will further extend its solar power systems to the six largest island communities in the Maldives — Addu City, Thinadhoo City, Fuvahmulah City, Kulhudhuffushi City, Lh. Hinnavaru, and B. Eydhafushi — under the ‘ASPIRE’ project, aiming to establish an 11-megawatt solar power infrastructure.
The Poised Project, a collaborative effort between Fenaka Corporation and the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy, is funded by a grant from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The primary objective of the project is to reduce the nation's dependency on fuel by introducing solar-diesel hybrid power output systems.
Fenaka Corporation emphasized that the project aligns with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s strategic action plan, which aims to generate 33 percent of the Maldives’ total electricity output from renewable or alternative energy sources.
