President Muizzu welcomes ICJ's advisory opinion

"We welcome the advisory opinion given by the ICJ today on the legal consequences of Israel's policies and actions in occupied Territories, including East Jerusalem," he said in a post.

The ICJ has recommended that all activities to encroach upon Palestinian lands should be stopped immediately and those who have settled on occupied lands should leave the occupied lands.

"Therefore, Israel should immediately withdraw from Palestinian lands and compensate them for the damage done to them," he said.

The president's post reiterated the Maldives' call for an independent state in Palestine to recognize East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine.

"I call for an immediate end to Israel's illegal settlement policies and compensation for the damage they have caused."

The president has spoken in various capacities on the Palestinian issue in the past.
