President Muizzu Urges Maldivian Students to Return, Promises High-Paying Jobs
During the event, where President’s and High Achiever’s scholarships were awarded to last year’s top A Level scorers, Dr. Muizzu highlighted the issue of many Maldivians working abroad due to low local wages. He assured that the government has policies in place to address this.
"The government will allocate MVR 200 million from the state budget to provide high salaries for educated professionals," Dr. Muizzu announced, emphasizing the need for human resources and expertise across various fields. He pledged that this initiative would make government jobs more lucrative than those in the private sector, eliminating the need for citizens to seek employment overseas.
Dr. Muizzu stated that the funds for these salaries would be reallocated from budgets currently designated for infrastructure development, underlining that both human resources and infrastructure are vital for the nation's growth.
Addressing the housing crisis, another barrier preventing students from returning, the President pledged to resolve the issue, allowing returnees to start their lives and families in the Maldives. He also noted that many fields would be reserved exclusively for locals in the future to increase job availability.
