Maldives Welcomes One Millionth Tourist of the Year

The Maldives has warmly welcomed its one millionth tourist of the year, Thai citizen Sutapa Amornvivat, a distinguished mathematician and economist, and the founding CEO of Abacus Digital.

Amornvivat, who arrived in the Maldives from Singapore with her husband and two children, is making her second visit to the island nation.

The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) and the Ministry of Tourism celebrated Amornvivat's arrival at Velana International Airport (VIA). She was greeted by Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal, MMPRC Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuree, and senior officials from various agencies.

In a tradition of welcoming the milestone tourist, Amornvivat received traditional offerings and gifts from the Ministry of Tourism, MMPRC, Maldives Customs, Immigration, the Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO), and Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA).

This year, the Maldives reached the one million tourist mark three weeks earlier than the previous year, achieving the milestone on July 16.
