Government Disburses MVR 13 Million in Loans to Farmers

The Ministry of Agriculture has allocated MVR 13 million in loans to farmers through the 'Dhanduveri Nafaa' loan program.

State Minister Mariyam Vishama announced at a press conference on Monday that the loans have been distributed to both private individuals and agricultural companies. The briefing also provided an update on the ministry’s progress during the first six months of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's administration.

Key allocations include:

  • Over MVR 4 million disbursed to private individuals.
  • MVR 8.82 million in loans to companies.

The Dhanduveri Nafaa Loan Program supports agricultural development, technological advancements in poultry farming, agroforestry, and value-added activities in agricultural products. Loans are available up to MVR 100,000 without collateral and up to MVR 2 million under specific conditions.

Minister Vishama also highlighted that the Ministry maintains a register of 7,627 farmers, with 53% being women and 47% men. The register is currently being updated.
