Family of IUM Professor Safely Repatriated from Gaza to Maldives

The family of Dr. Hassan Al-Kurdi, a professor at the Islamic University of Maldives (IUM), has been safely repatriated from Gaza to the Maldives. Their arrival was confirmed on Thursday.

Dr. Kurdi had appealed for donations on March 31st to facilitate his family's escape from the conflict-ridden region. The International Aid Campaign (IAC) successfully raised the necessary funds by April 7th. In a Facebook post on Thursday, IAC announced the safe arrival of Dr. Kurdi’s family in the Maldives, expressing their honor and gratitude for the support received from Maldivian citizens.

Upon arrival, the family was warmly welcomed by IAC’s team and several IUM staff members. IAC also thanked Maldives Immigration for their swift resolution of the challenges faced during the repatriation process, highlighting the strong cooperation in providing humanitarian aid.

Dr. Kurdi, who teaches Arabic at IUM, had his family residing in Rafah when Israel intensified its attacks on Palestine following the Hamas-led assault on Israel in October of last year. His wife is a primary school teacher, and the couple has four children, including an eldest daughter studying anesthesia and intensive care.
