President Muizzu to Attend 4th SIDS Conference in Antigua and Barbuda

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is set to depart for Antigua and Barbuda on Friday to participate in the fourth conference of Small Island Developing States (SIDS). The conference, held once a decade, will take place in Barbuda from May 27th to 30th.

SIDS, comprising 37 UN member nations and 20 associate members of regional commissions, are at the forefront of addressing global crises, particularly climate change.

During a press briefing on Thursday, Heena Waleed announced that President Muizzu will deliver seven statements at the conference. He will also meet with world leaders to strengthen ties on various mutual interests.

The Maldives will organize three events at the conference. The first event will highlight the country's progress in digitalization and its developmental impacts. The second will focus on the development of Hulhumale’, while the third is a regional side event.

President Muizzu will be accompanied by a delegation of top officials, including Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer, Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim, Housing Minister Dr. Ali Haidar, Climate Envoy Ali Shareef, HDC Managing Director Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed, and Ambassador-at-large Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed.

Under the theme "Charting the Course Toward Resilient Prosperity," the conference will assess the ability of SIDS to achieve sustainable development, including the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals. President Muizzu was invited to the conference by Antiguan Prime Minister Gaston Browne during the COP28 summit.
