26 Islands Vie to Host Eid-al-Adha Celebrations in Maldives

The Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture, and Heritage has confirmed that 26 islands have submitted proposals to host Eid-Al-Adha festivities this year.

The ministry intends to select three islands to host the celebrations, considering factors such as the range of activities planned, expenditure, and complimentary services provided.

Proposals were received from seven islands in the northern region, ten from central areas, and nine from the southern part of the Maldives. However, some submissions arrived after the deadline and were deemed ineligible by the ministry.

To evaluate the proposals and choose the finalists, a special committee has been appointed by the ministry. This committee has already commenced its assessments, and the selected islands are expected to be announced in the coming week.

The opportunity to submit proposals was opened by the ministry on April 25th, 2024. Eid-Al-Adha, which aligns with the conclusion of the Hajj Pilgrimage, falls on June 17th, 2024, adding significance to the celebrations.
