WAMCO Lowers Pickup Fee to MVR 500, Eliminates Gate Fees

Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO) has reduced the waste pickup fee in the Male' region from MVR 750 to MVR 500 and has revoked the MVR 150 gate fee for vehicles entering waste disposal stations.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu previously announced the decision to lower waste disposal service fees on April 1. WAMCO's recent announcement confirmed the reduction in the tipping fee for each ton of waste delivered to transfer stations by individuals, small businesses, and waste transport services to MVR 500.

Additionally, WAMCO has suspended the fees for weighing waste at transfer stations until a proper weighing system is established.

This decision follows significant waste management issues in Male', where discarded household items cluttered streets before Ramadan. Despite collaborative efforts by Male' City Council, WAMCO, and Maldives Police Service, the problem persisted. The council has since taken to social media to highlight offenders, resulting in over 180 fines for improper waste disposal.
