President Rejects Amendment to Expedite Land Handover

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has returned the bill proposing amendments to the Land Act, which would require the government to expedite the handover of land plots within a specified timeframe.

The President’s Office announced on Thursday night that the President has asked the parliament to reconsider the provisions of the amendment. As the 19th parliamentary assembly has concluded its term, the matter will now be decided by the incoming 20th parliamentary assembly.

The bill, originally submitted by MDP’s then-South Galolhu MP Meekail Naseem, was passed on April 29th. It mandates the government to hand over land to recipients within three months from the date the permanent list of recipients is publicized.
