MVR 1.2 bln in Green Fund balance

Maldives Green Fund Balances at MVR 1.2 Billion by February's End, Reports Finance Ministry As of the end of February, the Green Fund maintained a balance of MVR 1.2 billion, as disclosed by the Finance Ministry.

According to the ministry's published Green Fund report, MVR 202 million was injected into the fund during the initial two months of the current year, with MVR 102 million contributed in February alone.

Throughout this period, the fund disbursed MVR 94 billion, with a significant portion allocated to the Greater Male' Waste to Energy project. Notably, expenditures for this initiative amounted to MVR 14 million in February alone.

Introduced in October 2016, the Green tax serves the purpose of funding various environmental endeavors across the Maldives, encompassing water and sewerage projects, waste management initiatives, and beach preservation activities. The tax is levied on tourist establishments such as resorts, hotels, guesthouses, and liveaboards.
