20th Parliament: MPs to Swear Oaths on May 28th

The Speaker of the Parliament, Mohamed Aslam, has confirmed that the members of the 20th Parliament will take their oaths of office on May 28th.

During today's parliamentary session, Speaker Aslam made this announcement, stating that arrangements are being made for the ceremony next month. He also mentioned that the current term of the 19th Parliament will end on May 15th, with the last session scheduled for May 13th. The Speaker emphasized the importance of continuing parliamentary work until then.

Additionally, Speaker Aslam congratulated the newly elected MPs of the 20th Parliament and recognized those from the 19th Parliament who retained their seats. Among them are Meekail Ahmed Naseem from South Galolhu Constituency, Abdul Ghafoor Moosa from Hanimaadhoo Constituency, Hussain Ziyad from Vaikaradhoo Constituency, Ahmed Saleem from Eydhafushi Constituency, Ibrahim Naseem from Thulusdhoo Constituency, Hassan Zareer from Mathiveri Constituency, Gasim Ibrahim from Maamigili Constituency, Ahmed Thoriq from Mahibadhoo Constituency, Mohamed Nazim from Dhagethi Constituency, Ahmed Siyam from Meedhoo Constituency, and Ibrahim Nazil from South Hithadhoo Constituency.

In the recent election, the ruling PNC secured 67 out of the 93 seats in the 20th Parliament, while the main opposition party, MDP, only won 12 seats.
