Gulhifalhu Land Reclamation Project Nearing Completion, Minister Announces

Minister Dr. Abdulla Muthalib has announced that Boskalis, the Dutch dredging company hired to reclaim Gulhifalhu, will complete the project within the next month.

During a press briefing held today, Minister Muthalib stated that as of the beginning of this week, 127.9 hectares of land had already been reclaimed from Gulhifalhu.

He mentioned that the reclamation, initiated by the previous administration, is expected to be finished within approximately one month.

"As of March 17, 16.7 million cubic meters of sand has been filled. The remaining 1.3 million will be completed within the next month. Boskalis will have reclaimed the designated area by then," he stated.

Muthalib also highlighted that work on an additional 85 hectares of land from Gulhifalhu will commence once the ongoing reclamation work is completed.

Furthermore, he expressed the government's anticipation to finalize the land reclamation and start the installation of rock boulders along the coastline in April, with the entire process expected to take six months.

Once completed, the reclaimed land will be allocated for the construction of roads as part of the Thilamale' Bridge project.

The Gulhifalhu land reclamation project began in July 2023 and is valued at over MVR 2 billion.
