Maldives Tourism: Average Stay Hits 8 Days, Boosts Economy

Maldives Tourism Booms: Average Stay Reaches 8 Days, Driving Economic Growth

The Maldives witnessed a significant milestone in its tourism sector as the average tourist stay duration extended to eight days by March 2024, signalling a promising boost to the island nation's economy.

This growth in stay duration, up from 7.6 days following February 2023, comes amid a surge in tourist arrivals, primarily driven by visitors from China, Russia, and Italy. With the Maldives retaining its title as the World's Leading Destination for the fourth consecutive year, expectations are high to surpass 2 million visitors in the current year.

The tourism ministry highlights the importance of prolonged tourist stays in driving increased spending across resorts, restaurants, and attractions, further fueling economic growth. Despite India's descent to the sixth position in top source markets, the Maldives aims for market diversification to sustain growth momentum and achieve its ambitious visitor target.
